As a part of the #take12trips challenge in 2015, each month I will post my excursion of choice and also give you some hints as to my plans for the next month. Where did I find myself exploring in the month of June?
I must confess, I haven’t visited the North Shore since my early teen years when I went on a road trip with a friend’s family. Obviously my neglect of Lake Superior’s rugged coastlines and waterfalls needed to be remedied. After a trek south to New Ulm, Minnesota’s little Germany earlier in summer, I was excited to rekindle my relationship with the land north of the Twin Cities.
The best part of the weekend was showing off my home state to my boyfriend who happened to find himself in Minnesota for the first time. With only two days to spare it’s actually amazing what we were able to see.
What is there to love about a North Shore Road trip? Well……..
And the seamless blending of grays into blues…
Our two days spent traversing the shores of Lake Superior went by too fast. With a little more time I would have loved to have explored the coast all the way up to Grand Marais. Oh well, on another trip it must be!
The trip did have a rather surprising element that I had not planned on. You might be hearing wedding bells if you are in South Africa sometime during the early part of next year 🙂
My ultimate Northern Minnesota experience is to take off on a (well planned for safety reasons) canoe trip in the Boundary Waters….. Maybe in 2017?
