Seoul Tower is a fun way to view the entire city from a higher vantage point. The Cold Stone ice cream shop at the base also doesn’t hurt. Sometimes you can forget how vast Seoul really is, and when gazing out over the city from the observation area the reality of its size is breathtaking.
Because of this, we stepped off the Seoul City Bus Tour for a quick elevator ride up to the top.
While you’re up there, you might as well purchase the green screen photo. “Proof” that you were in three places at once. You stand in front of a green screen and can then purchase a night shot and a cherry blossom picture of yourself in front of the tower. It’s cheesy, but we we did it anyway.
The tower experience itself is great, but my favorite part came in the form of a surprise. As we exited the tower we heard music playing and saw a large crowd gathered.
As we drew nearer various forms dressed in red, wielding various weapons, made themselves visible. We had stumbled upon some type of martial arts demonstration. Not only was this unplanned, but it was also free!! A free look into a Korean tradition, love it!
side note: I fully proclaim and profess to a complete lack of martial arts/karate/kung fu/taekwondo knowledge. I have no idea what type of art this is, or if it is even considered a martial art. I mean no offense to anyone who does know and is, at this moment, sniffing their nose at me in indignation. I apologize!
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
(I apologize for the poor video quality. As the performance was a surprise I was unprepared).
