I am not usually a participator in challenges, I get excited and then end up feeling constricted. Obligation to meet the expectations of the challenge turns into drudgery instead of inspiration.
However, I decided 2015 would be different. The reason being that I shall immensely enjoy completing this challenge as it involves one of my favorite things. Travel and the discovery of new places.
The word travel can be quite ambiguous. To many the first image that comes to mind is of Indiana Jones running through the jungle, or a 20-something hippie gallivanting about the globe for months at a time in harem pants. The wonderful thing about the idea of travel, is that it can be as simple as a trip to a local attraction that you have always “meant” to see but never have.
I decided to join the challenge after seeing it appear in several places, most recently on Penelope & Parker’s Travels and (its creator) Need Another Holiday. I am excited to participate and might even pin some pictures on the Pinterest board.
Perhaps the primary motivation behind my taking up this challenge is that I will be finishing up two years of living and teaching in Korea to move back to Minnesota (temporarily). While I am ready for some changes, I am also a little nervous. I am of the opinion that change is usually beneficial, but rarely comfortable.
I have learned from past experiences of living abroad that while I love being home, my wanderlust will gradual kick in and make me antsy and restless.
I like the idea that one can take smaller trips to nearby locations to assuage any intense feelings of “get me on an airplane to somewhere, NOW!”.
Take 12 Trips in 12 Months
I am excited that the first few months are taken care of, as I will be traveling to South Africa. My first time on the continent! As I have been busy finishing up my work in Korea, as well as packing, planning, and saying goodbye, I haven’t had much time to think about my monthly trips beyond March.
Each month I will post about my excursion of choice and also give you some hints as to my plans for the next month. I am also more than open to suggestions for trips (especially from those of you living in and around the Twin Cities area).
